48-yr-old farmer electrocuted in Mathura

A 48-year-old farmer died today after he came in contact with a high voltage electric wire in Garhi Vijaya village here, following which people blocked the Gomat Bajna road for over six hours demanding compensation for the victim's family.
Om Prakash died when he came in contact with the live wire lying on the ground on way to water his fields at about 3 AM, SP, Mathura, Sanjai Kumar said.
The people later held a protest against the power department, placed the victim's body on the road and blocked it for hours, Kumar said.
"The blockade was lifted after the family of the deceased was assured that they will be given a compensation of Rs 1 lakh by the power department. Besides, they were also assured that they would get another of Rs five lakh, in case the land is registered in the name of the deceased ," he said.
A case will be registered against the power department officials concerned, he added.
