The accused, identified as Anil Kumar Yadav, Naim, Bhim, Mangli and Mohd Fakira have been arrested, said DCP (East) Rishi Pal.
A woman lodged a complaint with the police on October 6 alleging that her son, Sohail Hashmi, had been kidnapped, he said.
She told police that Sohail works as a salesman in a mobile shop at Palika Bazar and had gone to Hapur (UP) to borrow money from someone on October 5 and had been missing since then, he said.
The call was put on surveillance and the investigating team tracked the location of the kidnappers and arrested them from Mohammadpur village in Palwara district of Hapur.
Sohail was recovered safely from the kidnappers, the officer said.
During interrogation, the accused told police that they used to lure their target by giving advertisements in newspapers offering Rs 25,000 per day for escorting Indian/foreign female clients, the officer said.
"When a victim was lured by the advertisement, they used to fix a meeting on the pretext of meeting 'clients'. Sohail was also lured by the advertisement and was asked to come to Hapur to meet the client. When he reached there, he was kidnapped," he added.
