Kalyanpur police station in-charge Santosh Kumar Singh said he was checking vehicles in Barah Sirohi area yesterday and saw a white car moving. When asked to stop for checking, the passengers tried to flee but were apprehended.
He said five youths, identified as -- Jeetu, Sandeep, Shivam Singh, Govind and Lalit were arrested and 2 country-made pistols, 4 live cartridges, a cutter and other equipments to break locks were recovered from them.
The gang later confessed that they stole motorcycles from Kanpur and nearby districts and sold them. The youths have also committed robberies other than of vehicles, Gupta said.
Investigation is on this connection and police is on the look out for other accomplices of the youths.
