"The Crime Branch has arrested 5 inter-state robbers, who committed dacoity in a godown of electrical cables situated in Rewari district of Haryana. The gang consists of more than 20 members," Additional Commissioner of Police (Crime) Ravindra Yadav said in a statement here.
Yasin (33), Sonu (23), Babu Ram (22), Zia Lal (22) and Deep Chand (24) were arrested following a tip-off that the robbed cables, stored in a farm house near Sonia Vihar here, was being disposed of by the gang.
While, Babu Ram, Zia Lal and Deep Chand hailed from Uttar Pradesh, Yasin is from Bihar and Sonu from Haryana.
A team, lead by Inspector Jai Bhagwan and under the close supervision of ACP Zile Singh and Addl DCP Bhisham Singh, laid a trap near the farm house and apprehended the accused and recovered the stolen goods, worth Rs seven lakh, as well as one of the vehicles, a TATA truck, used in the crime.
During interrogation, they disclosed that their gang leader is Pawan Kabari, a resident of Sonia Vihar and that it was on his directions that they looted the godown on the intervening night of May 5-6, Yadav said.
Efforts are being made to arrest the gang leader and the remaining gang members, the ACP added.
