5 students arrested for torturing class mate

Five students were today arrested on charges of abducting and beating up a fellow student of a private college at Haldia in East Midnapore district.
Ankit Kumar, the second year student, was found lying on a road in Kolaghat area early today, police said, adding the tortured student later filed a complaint naming five class mates of the same year.
The five students, who were in a car, were intercepted at Bhobanipur and arrested, police said.
They were charged with kidnapping and physical assault and taken to police custody, police officer said.
The five were identified as - Sourabh Majhi, Md Chand, Vishal Singh, Rohit Gupta and Satyajit Singh.

The officer said police were inquiring if Ankit's reported affair with a girl student of the same batch in the private technical education college in Haldia caused a rift with the five students as indicated by some of the class mates of the accused.
