A five-year-old girl died and six other children were injured when the school van they were travelling in overturned in Bilaspur district of Chhattisgarh Friday, police said.
There were 18 children in the van when it overturned on a waterlogged road near Pandrapada in Pendra area, said local police station in-charge Sunita Naag.
Ankita Verma (5) died in the accident while six other children suffered injuries, the officer said.
While the van driver fled after the incident, passers-by rescued the children from the vehicle.
The van was ferrying children home from Kerala English Medium School at Pendra and the driver apparently lost control due to overspeeding, Naag said.
