An estimated 54 per cent of the 4.71 lakh voters today exercised their franchise in the polling held in Rajarajeshwari Nagar Assembly constituency, Karnataka Chief Electoral Officer Sanjiv Kumar said.
Election to the constituency was deferred due to large-scale electoral malpractices in which one of the accused is the Congress candidate Munirathna.
Besides Munirathna, BJP's Muniraju Gowda, JDS' G H Ramachandra and 11 others are in the fray.
Counting of votes will take place on May 31.
To ensure free and fair polls, elaborate security arrangements were made.
Besides heavy deployment of forces and route marches as confidence building measures, 121 out of 421 polling stations were connected with live web cameras, officials said.
