The murders followed an oracle by a "Kodangi" (sooth sayer) that the two women Muthammal and Sangili Ammal performed black magic and were responsible for the death of one Kattaperumal, his son and daughter-in-law in quick succession.
Kattaperumal's another son Baghyaraj along with five others had gone to the house of the two women and hacked them and then set them on fire.
The arrested confessed that they had burnt the bodies of the four persons after hacking them to death, said District Superintendent of Police Durai.
