6 Nigerians held for cheating through online ads

Six Nigerians have been arrested by the city police for allegedly cheating several people by luring them with throwaway price offers of expensive cars and mobiles phones through online ads.
"We have arrested six Nigerians for cheating people. They used to lure people to buy expensive cars and mobile phones at a throwaway prices via placing ads on OLX and Quikr.Com," Police Commissioner M N Reddi told reporters here today.
Police are in search of two other persons, part of the eight-member gang, he said, adding that during investigations the six also told them that they were involved in a murder of a Nigerian here last year.
The six were arrested following investigations into a cheating complaint lodged by one Srinivasa Baburao at Chickpet Police Station here on June 24, the Commissioner said.
After seeing the ad of an expensive Honda car on OLX.Com on June 17, Baburao had telephoned one of the accused, who in turn directed him to call another gang member, Sadhana.
Sadhana, posing as a businesswoman, asked Baburao to deposit Rs 95,000 in a bank and pick up the car from Bengaluru International Airport, Reddi said.
After the complainant deposited the amount in a Canara Bank branch, the accused went underground and did not recieve calls and kept the phone switched off.
Reddi said the accused confessed to police that they had duped people in over 16 such cases and also disclosed to having murdered a Nigerian under Hennur Police station limits a year ago.
