In a written reply, Minister of State for Tribal Affairs, Sudarshan Bhagat told the Rajya Sabha that under the Scheduled Tribes and Other Traditional Forest Dwellers (Recognition of Forest Rights) Act, 2006, Community Forest Rights (CFR) are recognised on the basis of claims received and admitted following due process.
"As per the information received from state governments till November 30 last year, 64,328 CFR claims have been recognised in the country against a total of 1,39,26 CFR claims," the minister said.
He added that the tribal ministry has written to principal secretaries of those states identified as "low performing", seeking justification of their current status and asking them to suo moto review the rejected claims to ensure that no wrongful rejections were made.
