609 buses in Pb found to be flouting prescribed norms

As many as 609 private buses plying in Punjab have been found to be flouting prescribed norms, a top state vigilance official said today.
Out of 2,291 buses checked during a state-wide campaign yesterday, 609 private buses were found to be not following the rules while 1,682 buses were found with valid documents, ADGP cum chief director of the vigilance bureau B K Uppal said.
He said 33 buses were impounded in Amritsar out of 598 which were inspected and 67 were fined during the drive.
In Ludhiana six buses were impounded and 97 were fined after inspecting 178 buses. Similarly, in Patiala, out of 405 buses inspected, 23 were impounded and 44 were fined.
"In Jalandhar out of 680 buses which were inspected, as many as 29 were impounded for not having proper documents and 85 were challaned," the officer said.
