A senior citizen was sentenced to 20 years in jail for raping a four-year-old girl here last month.
VII Additional Sessions Judge Rajeev Kumar passed the verdict against Krishna Chandrakar (63) on Monday within 37 days of the incident taking place in Mandir Hausaud area here on October 12, Special Public Prosecutor Morisha Naidu said on Tuesday.
Chandarkar was sentenced to 20 years in jail and slapped with a fine of Rs 50,000, the SPP told PTI.
Chandrakar had sexually assaulted the girl when she was playing alone outside her home, Naidu said.
"The girl complained of pain in her private parts and revealed the ordeal to her mother, after which a police case was lodged under IPC and Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act," Naidu said.
He was charged under sections 376 (rape) and 376 (AB) (punishment for rape on child under 12 years of age), the SPP added.
