Seven members of an inter-state gang were arrested for allegedly planning to rob "varkaris" who had assembled in large numbers at Pandharpur town today to mark "Ashadhi Ekadashi", a railway police official said.
He said that the gang was planning to steal the valuables of pilgrims who had assembled at a temple dedicated to Lord Vitthal and Rukmini in Pandharpur, a town on the banks of Bhima river in Solapur district.
The seven arrested hail from Rajasthan and Gujarat.
He said that information about the gang came to light on July 21 while two other chain-snatching cases were being investigated by the railway police.
