725 militants killed in army raids during the past months

As many as 725 militants have been killed in Egypt's restive North Sinai cities since October last year, army official said today.
Nearly 1873 suspected and 206 wanted militants were arrested, while 1823 militants headquarters were destroyed, Army spokesperson Brigadier General Mohamed Samir said.
"725 militants were killed during the period of October 25, 2014 to April 30, 2015 in the restive North Sinai cities," Samir said.
Samir also said that 591 unlicensed vehicles and 1447 motorcycle used by militants in their attacks against police and army personnel were destroyed.
Egypt's Sinai has witnessed many violent attacks by militants since the January 2011 revolution that toppled the ex-president Hosni Mubarak.

The attacks targeting police and military increased after the ouster of Islamist ex-president Mohamed Morsi in 2013.
Over 500 security personnel have been reported killed since then.
The military has launched security campaigns in the area, arrested suspects and demolished houses that belong to terrorists, including those facilitating tunnels leading to the Gaza Strip.
