Police said the arrested, Kishanpal from Kolkata, was about to board a train to his hometown when they apprehended him and recovered 75 tortoises, land-dwelling reptiles, from his bag.
Kishanpal confessed that the smuggled tortoises fetch good price in markets of Kolkata and he was indulged in this business for long.
Police said the rescued tortoises have been handed over to the forest officials.
