78 port projects worth over Rs 50,000 cr in pipeline: Govt

Shipping Ministry is overseeing implementation of 33 projects worth Rs 32,000 crore, while 45 projects with an investment of around Rs 18,414 crore are under operation, Parliament was informed today.
"As on date, 33 public private partnership (PPP) projects having estimated cost of Rs 32,001.30 crore and 280.97 million tonnes capacity are under implementation stage," Minister of State for Shipping P Radhakrishnan said in a written reply to Lok Sabha.
Besides, 45 projects with Rs 18,414.72 crore investment and 282.52 million tonnes capacity are under operation in major ports across the country, he added.
In a separate query, the minister said no funds has been allocated so far for setting up two new major ports, one each at Sagar Island in West Bengal and Dugarajapatnam in Andhra Pradesh.
"However, the estimated cost of Sagar Port in West Bengal and Dugarajapatnam Port in Andhra Pradesh is Rs 11,921 crore and Rs 17,615 crore, respectively," he added.
In another query, Radhakrishnan said a draft National Perspective Plan (NPP) for comprehensive development of India's coastline and maritime sector has been prepared in February, 2016.
As part of the NPP, more than 150 infrastructure projects have been identified. These projects have been identified across the areas of Port Modernisation & New Port Development, Port Connectivity Enhancement, Port-led Industrial Development and Coastal Community Development, he added.
