8 accidents in ordinance factories in 2 years: Parrikar

A total of eight accidents has taken place in ordinance factories across the country in the past two years.
Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar, in a written reply to the Lok Sabha, said replacement of existing plants and machinery is a continuous process in Ordinance Factories so as to keep up with the latest technology.
The Ordinance Factory Board has formulated a comprehensive five-year modernisation plan for capital investment in different ordinance factories including those where accidents have taken place in the recent past.
He said expenditures of Rs 783 crore and Rs 1,156 crore have taken place in different ordinance factories on this account in 2012-13, 2013-14 respectively.
"Further investment of Rs 7,696 crore is envisaged in the remaining three years of the 12th Plan (2012-17)," he said.
