At least eight people were killed and eight others injured today when a train collided with a passenger vehicle in Egypt's Aswan governorate.
"The train, which was coming from Aswan to Cairo ran off it's rails and collided with the vehicle killing eight and injuring eight others," Ministry of Health spokesperson Khaled Megahed said in a statement."
At least five of the injured are in critical condition, Megahed said.
"Eight ambulances rushed to the place of the incident and transferred the injured to nearby hospitals," the statement added.
Egypt has one of the world's highest accident rates owing to careless driving and poor road and vehicle conditions.
The World Health Organization (WHO) ranks Egypt as the world's tenth worst country in road accidents, after India, China and the US.
