83 defaulters prosecuted

In a special enforcement drive carried out by the Food Supplies and Consumer Affairs Dept of Delhi Government, 83 defaulters including manufacturers and dealers were prosecuted for selling pre-packaged commodities without the mandatory declarations.
"As a part of the drive 92 inspections were conducted in nine districts to ensure that pre-packaged commodities have the mandatory declarations as per Rule 6 of the Legal Metrology (Packaged Commodities) Rules, 2011 to provide information to people buying such commodities," said a press release issued by the Delhi government today.
The commissioner has directed all manufacturers, packers, importers and dealers to strictly follow the rules.
As per the rules, the name and address of the manufacturer, packer or importer should be available on the label of pre-packaged commodity along with the common or generic name of the commodity contained in the package, the release said.
Apart from that, the net quantity, the month and year of manufacturing or pre-packing, the dimension of the commodity contained in the package, where the size of the commodity contained in the package is relevant and the customer care number which may include name, address, telephone number, email address should be also mentioned.
The inspections were carried in Nehru Place, Gandhi Nagar, Paharganj, Vikas Marg, Chandni Chowk, Palika Bazaar, Karol Bagh, Sadar Bazaar areas.
