The police today arrested an 83-year-old man, who allegedly fired with his licensed pellet gun, injuring two other old persons, including a woman, at Deulasahi under Bidanasi area here.
Arresting the accused Purna Chandra Mohanty of the locality, the police has seized his smoothbore breech loading (SBBL) gun and cartridges. The injured - Parvati Das (65) and Mrs Subhra Mohanty (60) - are now undergoing treatment at SCB Medical College and Hospital here with bleeding injuries, police said.
"An irate Purna Chandra opened fire at Parvati while the latter was having tea at Subhra Mohanty's tea cafe near a temple. Both Parvati and Subhra have received multiple injuries in their bodies", said the city DCP Sanjiv Arora.
The DCP said the accused was produced before a local magisterial court. But it was not known till late in the evening whether the court would send the old man to jail.
The police said the old man was nurturing a grudge against Parvati, a land broker, over a protracted land dispute leading litigations in courts for over three decades. While the matter is still pending disposal in the Supreme Court, Purna Chandra apparently got furious and fired at Parvati.
