On its way to Rajahmundry from Rajam, the Andhra Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (APSRTC) bus dashed into the rear-end of an autorickshaw while overtaking a car at Marikivalasa junction of Madhurawada mandal here, Assistant Commissioner of Police (Traffic) M Srinivas said.
Six persons, including three women, died on the spot in the mishap while three others succumbed on way to hospital, he said.
There were 12 passengers in the autorickshaw at the time of accident. Some other persons, standing on the roadside where the mishap took place, also sustained injuries.
The bus driver surrendered before the police.
An irate mob damaged the bus after the accident.
