The incident occurred on Bahraich-Lucknow road near Tikora turn when the two vehicles approaching from the opposite direction collided killing eight persons on the spot, Additional Superintendent of Police, Vikas Kumar Vaidya, said.
One succumbed to injuries in the hospital, he said.
Efforts were on to identify the victims who appear to be locals belonging to nearby rural areas, the police official said.
The injured, including three women, have been admitted to the district hospital, Vaidya added.
