A 9-year-old boy drowned in the swimming pool of a hotel in Calangute near here, police said today.

The incident happened at 8pm yesterday when the boy, a resident of Delhi who had come along with his family to Goa for a vacation, went to the swimming pool without the knowledge of his parents, Inspector Jivba Dalvi said.

An offence was registered by Calangute police against the management of the resort for negligence as it had not deployed a lifeguard at the pool, Dalvi informed.
