90-year-old woman rape case: HC takes suo motu cognisance

Taking suo motu cognisance of the alleged rape of a 90-year-old woman in the city, Madhya Pradesh High Court has issued notices to state Home Secretary and Superintendent of Police (SP) seeking details of the incident.
Based on a newspaper report about the rape of the old woman, a division bench of the high court comprising Chief Justice Ajay Manikrao Khanwilkar and Justice Sanjay Yadav yesterday issued 48-hour notices to the officials.
Accused Kukku (52) had raped the elderly woman living alone at a slum under Gorakhpur police station area on the night of November 30. Police had later arrested the accused.
The next hearing in the case will be held on December 4.
