A poacher, who allegedly
killed a wild boar at Biripadara village under Muzagarh forest range in Ganjam district, was arrested by forest personnel, officials said today.
The accused, Kumar Nayak (45) of same village killed the animal by trapping it near his paddy field on the outskirts of the village.
Forest officials caught him red-handed yesterday while he was near the dead animal. The carcass along with the trap was seized from the spot, said forest range officer, Mazagarh forest range, Sudarshan Badi.
"In the last two months, we have arrested seven poachers in Buguda range for hunting animals and birds, mainly wild boar and peacock, by electrocution," said the range officer.
