The AAP today accused BJP's SDMC councillor Shailender Singh Monty, who has been nominated for a key post in the civic body by the party, of "encroaching upon" DDA land in two different cases.
Addressing a news conference AAP's Malviya Nagar legislator Somnath Bharti claimed that a hotel belonging to Monty has been built on the DDA land.
"The land was encroached by Shailender Singh Monty over which a hotel was built. I have been raising the issue with the DDA and the matter is also pending with the court to demolish this property. The Delhi High Court was to give a decision on this, but the DDA's counsel has now sought more time to reply.
"There are several such cases. You can imagine a waiter earning Rs 4000 few years back now has properties across Delhi."
Monty rejected the allegations saying he has sold off the property some three years ago. The SMDC councillor, from ward no 163, has been nominated by the party to be its candidate for the SDMC's Standing Chairman post.
"I don't own any hotel. I sold the property some three years back and what the existing owners do is not my concern. The charges of me encroaching upon DDA land is baseless. We have been possessing land in the Hauz Khas village since we are the locals .
"I have been called a waiter, but I did my hotel management course in 1991 and I have proper qualification," Singh said.
