Delhi BJP today said that the AAP government was making "hurried announcements" on the issue of severe air pollution here, and should instead take concrete steps, like removal of debris and dust from roadsides and installation of CNG kits, to deal with it.
Delhi BJP President Satish Upadhyay said the announcement made by the Delhi Cabinet about steps to fight air pollution "has exposed its lack of knowledge in the matter".
"It appears that the government believes in making frantic announcements without caring how they would implement them. Delhi BJP will extend full co-operation to government in the fight against pollution but instead of making announcements government should do concrete work, the work of removal of debris and dust from the roadsides should be started on war footing and installation of CNG kits in vehicles should be re-started," he said in a statement.
Referring to announcements by the government regarding temporary closure of Badarpur Themal Power Plant and DG sets for 10 days, Upadhyay claimed it could push Delhi into a new power crisis.
"Similarly, we failed to understand that how will they stop dust pollution by banning construction activity for five days," he said, adding that government has not presented a concrete plan to deal with dust pollution here.
"The proposal of water sprinkling on the roads suggested by Kejriwal government is too childish, in such a big city how will you manage sprinkling and where do you have that much water," he said.
Upadhyay also said that a committee of specialists should be formed to analyse the reasons behind environment pollution in Delhi.
"Kejriwal government has today again indicated towards bringing odd-even vehicle system but the proof of government's unserious attitude is that there is blanket ban on fitting of CNG kits in vehicles in Delhi," he said.
"We have often seen that Delhi Government hastily announces closure of school and colleges and feels that the responsibility is over. Every year during this season children suffer a lot due to fog and it is advisable that Delhi Government should amend school timings during winter months," the statement said.
