The Congress today mounted a sharp attack on the AAP which abstained from voting in the election for deputy chairman of Rajya Sabha, claiming "arrogance" had set in Arvind Kejriwal's party which would have been "history" without its support in 2013.
The Congress' reaction came after AAP's Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh criticised Congress president Rahul Gandhi for not reaching out to AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal to support its candidate for Rajya Sabha deputy chairmanship.
Delhi Congress chief Ajay Maken said the "sulking" party helped the BJP by abstaining from voting.
"AAP says- politics not run on egos' Yet AK is sulking because didn't get a call from RG-thus helped BJP. Using this logic-In 2013,BJP would have formed Govt in Delhi & AAP would have been history (sic)," Maken tweeted.
Earlier in the day, Sanjay Singh said the his party, which has three members in the Rajya Sabha did not vote in favour of opposition candidate and Congress MP Hariprasad because it was not asked.
Maken said the Congress learnt a "bitter lesson" after supporting the AAP to form government in Delhi in 2013.
"Soon after forming the government with our support, you spread lies, lodged FIRs against our leaders and also fielded candidates against all sitting Congress MPs in Delhi to ensure BJP victory in 2014, he tweeted addressing Kejriwal.
The bickering between the two parties comes amid talk of a possible alliance between the two for 2019 Lok Sabha elections. They had failed to open account in Delhi in the last elections in which BJP won all seven Lok Sabha seats.
