An estimated 4948 voters opted for the Non of the Above (NOTA) option in the April 7 assembly elections in Arunachal Pradesh which constitute over one percent of the votes polled.
Namsai assembly constituency recorded 406 NOTA options while prestigious Itanagar constituency came second where 356 voters pushed the NOTA option made available in the EVMs for the first time in Lok Sabha polls, election office sources here said.
The lowest number of NOTA option was recorded in Meriyang- Geku constituency from where first-timer Olom Panyang of the BJP won by a margin of mere 9 votes.
The NOTA option would not impact the election results irrespective of the number of votes it garnered, the sources said.
"The NOTA option on EVMs has no electoral value. Even if the maximum number of votes cast is for NOTA, the candidate getting the most of the remaining votes would be declared winner," the sources said.
