Several students reached the rally ground here and later marched towards the Punjab Assembly but were stopped by police.
ABVP state Secretary Vikas Singla said "We had started a mass movement against drugs and tried to make youth in the state aware but till now our government has failed to come out with a strong policy to stop it. That is why we are now adopting the path of protest".
The protesters demanded from the state government a bill on the issue in the ongoing Assembly session.
ABVP also attacked Punjab government for privatisation of education.
"We also demand from government to monitor newly-formed private universities and colleges. For this, a new education regulatory commission should be formed to have check on syllabus and fee structure of these institutions," the student leader said.
