Academy disqualifies 'Arrival', 'Manchester...' scores
The movies no longer feature in the list of eligible contenders released by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.
Denis Villeneuve's "Arrival" featured previously used pieces of music by composer Max Richter. "Manchester By the Sea" and "Silence" had similar issues, leading to their exclusion from the list of Oscar hopefuls.
As per Academy's rules, a score will not be eligible if it has been diluted by the use of pre-existing music.
