Uttarakhand Congress chief Kishore Upadhyay today urged Chief Minister Harish Rawat to include statehood agitation in the education curriculum.
In a letter to Rawat, he said, inclusion of the statehood agitation in the educational curricula at different levels has been a long standing demand of the enlightened sections of people in Uttarakhand.
It was a non-violent agitation which led to the creation of Uttarakhand and its inclusion in the educational curriculum will help future generations learn about their roots and their identity, Upadhyay said.
The agitation for statehood to Uttarakhand reached its peak in the 1990s and finally led to its creation out of Uttar Pradesh on November 9, 2000.
