Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis today said an officer of Additional Director General rank will probe the incident where Jalna police recently used a rape victim as a "bait" to nab culprits due to which she had to undergo the same trauma again.
Replying to a debate on the incident in the Assembly, Fadnavis said, "An Additional DG rank officer will probe the case and the government will rehabilitate the victim and guilty will not be spared."
The 17-year-old from Jalna was allegedly raped twice by two men, first on July 6 and for the second time after police set her up as "bait" to reach the culprits.
According to the victim, the police reportedly used her to set a trap for the accused -- even before an FIR could be filed and she could be sent for a medical examination on July 7 when she reached them to file a complaint.
The victim was used for another trap planned by police on July 9, when she was raped again.
The accused are reported to have taken the victim's cellphone and shot a video of the initial incident on July 6.
As per the police, the alleged rapists were demanding Rs 2,000 for returning her cellphone following which they decided to use the girl to trap them.
Meanwhile, replying to another debate on Mumbai rains last month in which the the city came to a standstill, Fadnavis said 40 low lying areas have been identified in which pumping stations are being installed.
Work is completed at four places. Next monsoon, there would be no flooding in Hindmata area.
At present, inquiry into allegations of misappropriation of funds in drainage cleaning in Mumbai is on by Deputy Municipal Commissioner.
