Adequate security for places of worship in Kovai: CoP

Adequate security arrangements will be made in and around the places of worship, particularly temples, for the new year eve in the backdrop of protest announced by Hindu Munnani against midnight poojas.
A total of 1,200 police personnel and one battaliion of Tamil Nadu Special Police will be deployed for security duty, including to check drunken driving during the nights, city Police Commissioner, A Amalraj told reporters here.
Replying to a question on the Munnani's statnd that new year celebrations were part of western culture and it will not allow midnight poojas in temples, he said "We will not allow that to happen. It is one's belief."

However, considering the warning, adequate security arrangements will be made around temples and also churches in the city, he said.
He, however, said police have not not received any specific threat for the new year.
