A senior Uttarakhand police official today dismissed the media reports that said Sub-Inspector Gagandeep Singh, who recently saved a Muslim youth from an angry mob in Ramnagar, had gone on leave as he was receiving death threats.

"He has not received any threats. His going on leave has nothing to do with the Ramnagar episode. Taking leave is a routine thing. He will be back on duty on June 2," ADG law and order Ashok Kumar said.

A section of news media had reported that Singh had taken leave as he was receiving death threats after he saved a Muslim youth from an angry mob which had spotted him with a Hindu girl at a temple in Ramnagar in Nainital district.

"When a policeman saves someone in trouble he only does his duty no matter which religion or community the person in distress belongs to," the ADG said, adding Singh did exactly that.

Nainital SSP Janmejay Khanduri too refuted the media reports last night.
