A meeting between the KMDA and monitoring committee of Rabindra Sarobar has decided to invite active participation of citizens to save the greeneries of Rabindra Sarobar area, a large water body in southern parts of city.
The meeting attended by Kolkata Metropolitan Development Authority (KMDA) CEO Saumitra Mohan and monitoring committee members decided to invite citizens to chip in for 'Adopt a tree' programme.
In this initiative citizens will be invited to adopt a tree within the Rabindra Sarobar compound, as per their choice, and spend money for the upkeep of the tree, a statement issued by the KMDA said.
Besides 'Adopting' a tree, the citizens will be encouraged to 'Plant a tree' as part of celebrating family occasions like marriage anniversary, birthday or likewise.
The meeting also discussed formation of an eco club 'Taru Mitra' (friend of tree) to organise awareness campaign, looking after trees and keep eco-friendly ambience within the Sarobar area, the statement said.
