Former BJP MP Anusuiya Uikey claimed Saturday that her statement praising Congress veteran Kamal Nath was "distorted".

Both Nath and Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan deserve credit for development of Chhindwara, said Ukiey, the vice chairperson of the National Commission for Scheduled Tribes.

"The development of Chhindwara has been done jointly by its MP Kamal Nath and chief minister Shivraj Singh," she said at a press conference here, claiming that her speech on Friday was distorted in a "false press release".

"I am going to file a defamation suit against those who issued the false press release," she said.

"I have toured 29 states in India but I like Chhindwara the most. Though our ideologies (of the BJP and Congress) are different, I congratulate MP Kamal Nath personally on behalf of people for turning Chhindwara district into a role model of development in the country," Uikey had said Friday at a function here.

Asked for a comment, Nath said Saturday that even senior BJP leader and former chief minister Babulal Gaur had hailed his work in the past.

Nath, currently the state Congress chief, is the Lok Sabha MP from Chhindwara since 1980.
