The MLA Gunashekaran from the Manamadurai constituency and his two followers were attacked with sickles by a five persons this evening, DSP Purushothaman said.
The three were sitting in a shop when Lokesh, an AIADMK worker, his brother and three others picked up a quarrel with the MLA over issue of removing the worker's shop which had been put up on government land, he said.
The gang attacked the MLA and his two followers Somanathan and Arumugam, both AIADMK workers, and fled.
While three persons have been arrested in connection with the incident, police are still trying to locate Lokesh and his brother who are still at large.
