Ruling AIADMK today won the Alandur bypoll, continuing with its winning streak and increasing its tally to 151 in the 234-member Tamil Nadu Assembly.
AIADMK candidate V N P Venkataraman defeated his DMK rival R S Bharathy by a margin of 18708 votes.
The bypoll was necessitated by the resignation of former DMDK MLA Panrutty S Ramchandran, who quit the party and later joined AIADMK.
With this win, AIADMK has got 151 seats in the Tamil Nadu Assembly. Polling was held on April 24 along with the Parliamentary elections.
