The Bombay High Court today restrained the city police from taking coercive action against Bollywood film-maker Karan Johar in connection with the case registered against him and others over the AIB Roast show.
The division bench of Justices Ranjit More and Anuja Prabhudessai restrained the police from taking any action against Johar till March 16, the next date of hearing.
The court had last week restrained Pune police from taking any coercive action against 14 persons, including Johar and actors Arjun Kapoor and Ranveer Singh, for allegedly using obscene and abusive language at AIB Roast show held in Mumbai last year.
The present FIR, registered by Mumbai police, is based on a complaint filed by the activist Santosh Daundkar.
The court has now clubbed both the matters and directed the state government to file its reply to two petitions which seek to quashing of FIRs.
Tardeo police station here has registered a case against 14 people, including the president of the National Sports Club of India Jayantilal Shah, its general secretary Ravinder Aggarwal, organisers of the Roast, Johar, Ranveer Singh, Rohan Joshi, Tanmay Bhat, Gursimran Khamba, Ashish Shakya, Aditi Mittal, Deepika Padukone, Alia Bhatt, Rajeev Masand and Arjun Kapoor.
