Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav today slammed opposition parties for "politicising" the killing of an army jawan by miscreants in Meerut and criticised them for disrupting the Assembly, where they can corner the government on such issues.
"We have taken stringent action against the accused. The orders are clear that they can also be booked under the stringent National Security Act...The government is taking action on the unfortunate incident," Yadav told reporters here.
Responding to a question on police lathicharge on Congress workers in the state, who were protesting against the killing, the Chief Minister said, "they do not allow the Assembly to function, where they can corner the government on such issues. Assembly is the best place to raise such issues. My request to BSP, Congress and BJP is not to politicise such issues," Yadav said on the sidelines of a function to release a book on Kumbh Mela.
Both the houses of Uttar Pradesh legislature today witnessed a washout of Question Hour as the members of Opposition trouped into the Well demanding a discussion on the prevailing law and order situation in the state.
Yadav had yesterday announced a compensation of Rs 10 lakh to the family of the army jawan - Vedmitra Chaudhury, who was killed when he confronted eve teasers a few days back.
