The accused, Neelmani Mishra, allegedly killed his sons Sharad, Gautam and Vinay -- all less than 6 years old -- in an inebriated state at his house in Valmiki Nagar area under Amanaka police station limits, a senior police officer said.
The accused was living in the locality along with his four children and wife.
According to the officer, Mishra is a drunkard and would often fight with his wife and children.
Today afternoon he picked a fight with his wife under the influence of alcohol and in a fit of rage slit throats of the children with a sharp-edged weapon, police said.
On hearing screams of the kids, neighbours rushed to their house and later informed police, he said.
Infuriated by the ghastly crime, they thrashed Mishra before handing him over to police, he said.
A case has been registered in this regard, police said.
