PCC president Amarinder Singh on Saturday accused Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal of spreading lie that if Congress comes to power, farmers won't get free electricity.

"Let me assure you, it is not the matter of 'if', but 'when' we form the government, we will ensure free power to farmers," he said, while reacting to Badal's claim that Singh will stop free electricity to farmers, if voted to power.

The PCC Chief said during his tenure, farmers were not only provided free power, but also for full eight hours every day.

"And in case, there was a power cut for some time, it was compensated the next day," he said, adding "either you (Badal) seem to have forgotten or are deliberately trying to spread lies".

He said if Congress is voted to power he will not only provide free power to farmers, but also ensure its regular supply.

Besides, Singh added, there will be no hidden charges as imposed on farmers by the Badal government.

He said the farmers were being made to pay huge amount of money for superfluous reasons that virtually negated the idea of free power. "I have promised that free power means completely free power without any hidden charges that you (Badal) are imposing," he said.

Singh also challenged Badal to swear before Akal Takht that he had not signed and approved the construction of Satluj-Yamuna Link canal to "please" his friend and the then Haryana Chief Minister Devi Lal in 1978.

Referring to Badal's charge that he was part of the design to construct the SYL, Singh said, "why have you kept quiet over Devi Lal's statement in Haryana Vidhan Sabha that I made public where he has completely exposed your complicity".
