In a statement here, Amarinder said the issue was not about a particular person being appointed the Army chief, but about the image of one of the most important institutions of the country which is respected world over for its valour, courage and professionalism.
The Deputy Leader in the Lok Sabha said certain vested interests, to serve their personal egos, were trying to rake up the controversy although it had no basis as had been admitted by the new government in its affidavit to the Supreme Court of India.
Amarinder called for restraint by everybody concerned in the matter in the interest of the nation and the Army.
He also referred to the reported statement of the Defence Minister Arun Jaitley that the chapter about the appointment of the Army chief was closed and it must not be politicised.
