The Guwahati-bound convoy of the Chief Minister had left Shillong at around 6 pm on April 20 and on reaching Sumer, the ambulance hit one Wanbok Syiem who was also taken to the Shillong Civil Hospital in critical condition, Ri-Bhoi district SP C V S Reddy told PTI.
The victim died the following morning after which the driver of the vehicle, Wanb ok Syiem (incidentally both the victim and the accused sharing the same name) was arrested based on an FIR lodged by the victim's sister, he said.
Narrating the incident, E Syiem, the victim's sister said the ambulance that came on a very high speed hit Donbok Syiem on the roadside while he was helping his aunt shift furniture.
After hitting the victim, the driver and a senior government doctor present in the ambulance took the victim on the same vehicle to Shillong Civil Hospital where he died the following morning, the family members said.
