'American Idol' season 7 finalist Michael Johns has passed away due to a blood clot following an ankle injury.
Johns got a twisted ankle and went to a doctor to check his pain. The doctor cleared him to go home but the next day he was found dead at his home, reported TMZ online.
Sources close to Johns say, he died in his sleep. The singer was placed 8th in Season 7 (2008) and following his exit from the show he continued to record music. He recorded an album 'Hold Back My Heart' in 2009.
He also did charity work with former executive producer Nigel Lythgoe, who said, "He was a great talent and dear friend. My boys and I are devastated."
Johns is survived by wife Stacey Vuduris, whom he married in 2007.
"Our family is devastated by the passing of our beloved Michael, a wonderful husband, son, brother, uncle, and friend. We appreciate the outpouring of love and support we have received from all corners of the globe," Johns' family said.
