Amit Shah to attend function on "Gorata memorial"

BJP President Amit Shah will visit Gorata village near Bidar in north Karnataka on September 17 to attend the ground-breaking ceremony for setting up a memorial by the party to mark "Independence of Hyderabad" from the Nizam rule.
State BJP President Prahllad Joshi announced Shah's visit to reporters after a meeting of party's district presidents and general secretaries here.
Gorata is called Jalianwala Bagh of South India after Nizam's militia massacred people of Gorata for hoisting the Indian flag on May 19, 1948, Joshi said. Gorata was under Hyderabad Nizam who was reluctant to be a part of India.
Under the "Operation Polo" in 1948 that overthrew the Nizam, the state of Hyderabad became part of India.
