The ministry, however, has asked UGC to further inspect the identified universities to track their performance.
"Atleast 11 universities have been identified as under performers including AMU, Allahabad University, Pondicherry University, Central University of Jammu, Jharkhand and Rajasthan and BR Ambedkar University, Lucknow," a senior HRD Ministry official said.
Other defaulter universities identified by the Ministry officials include Hemwati Nandan Bahuguna Garhwal University, Dr Hari Singh Gour University, Tripura University and Mahatma Gandhi Antarashtriya Hindi Vishwavidyalaya.
"There are more such universities which have not been performing upto the mark and process to identify them is on. UGC has been asked to strictly monitor their performance," he said.
