'Magic Mike XXL' will be directed by Gregory Jacobs ('Criminal'). MacDowell, 56, has boarded the sequel in an unknown role, Variety reported.
The 'Groundhog Day' actress joins the returning cast of Channing Tatum, Matt Bomer, Joe Manganiello and Alex Pettyfer.
Gregory Jacobs has confirmed that Matthew McConaughey will not be appearing in the follow-up.
Jacobs, Tatum and his partner Reid Carolin will be serving as producers behind the film.
'Magic Mike XXL' will reportedly follow the strippers as they hit the road on a trip.
Cinematographer Steven Soderbergh announced the start of production on the film earlier this month.
