The Furnace, opened on May 19, will be used for Anti-flaking treatment of special grade of high strength alloy steel with very low Sulphur, Phosphorus and Hydrogen content, RSP said in a statement today.
"These steel are mostly used for defense purposes. Anti flaking treatment is done immediately after rolling. The plates are stacked inside a furnace at a particular temperature to remove the Hydrogen from steel by diffusion," it said.
Earlier, RSP did not have this facility, which was opened at its new plate mill. Installed at an approximate expenditure of Rs 3.7 crore, the job was completed in a record time of 2 months, it said.
